Za'atar Popcorn

A Middle Eastern Twist on Popcorn

If you like popcorn and you adore za’atar, then this recipe is for you! My husband makes popcorn weekly as healthy snack, and one day he had a creative idea to spice things up a bit by adding a sprinkle of za’atar to it. Za’atar is one of our all-time favorite spice mixes to cook and bake with, so this culinary twist seemed obvious. The flavors of za’atar mixed with the lightly salted popcorn is savoury with a little bit of tang. It’s a must try!

ingredients

  • 1 cup popcorn kernels

  • 2 tablespoon za’atar

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • Salt to taste

directions

1. Heat your saucepan on high and add oil, za'atar, kernels, and salt. Stir constantly as the pan, and kernels heat up.

2. After a few minutes, the kernels will start to pop. Once three or four pop, stop stirring and put the lid on the pan. At this point, the popcorn will start to pop, and it is important to keep shaking the pan so the unpopped kernels fall to the bottom.

3. Once you hear only 1 or 2 pops every 3 seconds, the popcorn is finished and ready to be removed from the heat.

4. Tip: Keep in a tightly sealed glass Tupperware for lasting freshness throughout the week.
